Colts kick off at last
Harpenden Colts Old Boys 2, Herts Mauritians 1
HASFL Knockout Cup R1 16 September 2012
Harpenden Colts Old Boys season finally kicked off with a 2-1 Knockout Cup win over division 2 side Herts Mauritians but they had to come from a bizarre own goal down at half time and they squandered numerous chances before goals by Jimmy Warner and Will Bates secured the win.
Fielding quite a strong side Colts were really looking to start the season with a good win after struggling to raise a side in recent weeks but although they had much of the territorial possession and had a goal disallowed and a good penalty shout ignored they went behind just before the break with a blind pass back that rolled into the Colts goal.
The second half saw Colts continue to have most of the terittorial possesion and they equalised after 49 mins when a James Whitehurst free kick into the box saw Jimmy Warner react first to the loose ball to force home from close range. Colts went ahead after 61 minutes when a good run through midfield by David Keenlyside saw him feed Will Bates on the right hand side of the box and Bates cut inside with quick feet past 2 defenders to fire home at an angle. Colts then had another goal disallowed and hit the bar but there was no denying the win.
